I got a night out with my husbando tonight. We ate out, and then wandered around the book store for an hour and a half! I got 3 books...and a pair of jeans. Not at the book store, but at The Loft. Which, if you like their clothes, $20 off all jeans/trousers right now.
Sweet Adeline will be by tomorrow for part of the day. I think I'll go get her ears pierced. I'm kidding...or am I?
As you can tell, I'm in a pretty silly mood...must be still on a high from getting to eat a FULL HOT MEAL, and look at thousands of books and flip through magazines without once quieting Max. I even perused the DVD section. Borders has a full British TV section...you better believe my Christmas list is going to have a few of those gems on it!
Well, I need to go ahead and finish a load of laundry before I head to bed. But I wanted to offer up this little video...that has made me laugh for a couple of weeks. I don't quite know why, but I just crack up at it. I think I should be Juniece for Halloween.
We had quite a long day today. It started out at a pediatrician appointment. All was well there. Max is gaining weight, and growing in length. The nutritionist bumped him up on calories again. He's at the 5th percentile in weight, and 70th percentile in height. I'm happy for him to chunk up a bit more before winter, but he doesn't need to get ginormous! We'll start him on a new formula that will have a higher calorie count in lesser volume.
After the peds appointment, we went over to get a bite to eat before his allergy appointment. we hurried down a bowl of noodles and got back in time for our allergy appointment, that went on for another 2 hours. They got all of his medical history, focusing of course, on the allergy side of life.
The nurse came in to do the allergy tests, and after 15 minutes we saw that he was allergic to beef, pork, dogs, and the flu vaccine.
Beef and pork, he's eaten before, but has not had a reaction to. The doctor told us it is likely the gelatin from these that causes problems in Max. When I asked why he didn't react to eating them, or Jello, he said, it wasn't injected into him. Point taken.
Dogs, the dr. said it is likely Max has grown so used to Olive that she doesn't bother him. She does not shed, and being that she is a comfort dog to Max, he saw no reason to get her into a new home. He did say that he would probably have issues with other dogs. We've seen that happen with a friend's dogs before, so now we know.
The flu vaccine was what we went in for. To see what he was allergic to, to hopefully get to the bottom of whether or not he could get the flu vaccine. This was the biggest reaction of them all. The biggest red dot and whelp. The dr. told us that when kids are allergic to eggs (which Max is not.), they do a course of shots, in small increments until the whole dose is given. They will admit him into the E.D. and place an IV before they will give him the vaccine. They will start with a very small dose. If he does okay with that, they will continue on. If he has any sort of reaction, they will quit it there.
There is a risk that he will have a reaction to the vaccine, but it is important to us for him to be protected as well as he can to the flu. But we leave it up to the doctors' discretion as to whether or not he should have it. If not, it's going to be a long winter! But if he can, we will just have to be very cautious, hence the dramatic ER scene. :)
He's back on his allergy meds, and even got another one added onto his list for his itchy eyes.
Days like this exhaust me. They drain all of the energy right out. Telling and re-telling his life story. Remembering the smallest details from 4 years ago. Convincing new doctors that you know what you are talking about, and making sure they are keeping all of it straight.
But, I am good at it. I'm really good at it. Steve and I both are. We're an incredible team.
Although this is how we spent most of the day...Grumpy...
And crying...
This made it all worth it!
Max was again, so excited that Adeline was coming over today, he didn't sleep last night. So he's been especially grumpy this evening. Little guy loves his baby cousin so much. Except for when I let her put her feet on his head. Then his feelings got hurt and he puckered up and cried a good wailing cry for me. Oh dear...
Halloween is coming up...that means Max's birthday...his 5th birthday is coming up. And I don't have a clue as to what his costume should be.
I don't usually care so much, but we're planning a pretty big shin-dig and I want him to be the coolest dude there! I've been seeing some amazing costumes that incorporate his wheelchair, but I don't necessarily want him to have to sit in his chair the whole night. A great costume Max's therapist came up with today is Max from where the Wild Things Are, in the boat! (The one he sails off to the place where the wild things are.) Maybe we can use his red wagon, and sit him up in a special chair, and make it a boat.
I really would love him to be one a monster...but I can't find a single monster costume for him this year! And Abbey suggested he be an opera singer. But I don't know how we would make that one work!
So...all of you who know Max...let's hear the ideas!
Oh me oh my...it's raining and cooler outside. It's about stinking time!
It's snowing up in the mountains. Pretty soon that will be a site I'm ready to see go away, but for now, I'm ready for it!
I'm also ready to plan Max's birthday party! Maybe I'll get started on that this week. And I'm also getting excited to move all of my house things into my new house. I've been visualizing where everything will go.
Let's see, what else?
This past week was crazy full. And productive.
We ordered Max's new wheelchair:
Pretty cool huh? We will get it in a couple of months if everything goes through smoothly, which it likely will, because, we got Max back on Medicaid this week! Yippee! It really is going to help so much.
Later in the week I've got to stop Max's allergy meds so we can get an accurate test on the 13th to see if we can find what makes his body freak out with vaccines. I'm not looking forward to the days with extra snot and little guy itchy eyes.
Okay, off to watch more HOUSE episodes before bed. This post is seeming mighty jumbled to me...but maybe it's just my life right now...pretty jumbled!!!
Death At A Funeral : I haven't laughed so hard in such a very long time!
I love a good chick flick now and then...and I really love adventure movies with my husband, because he gets so into them!
Favourite Bands:
I have a gazillion songs on my iTunes...I like them all! I'm enjoying Coldplay's new cd now.
Favourite Books or Authors:
Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, JK Rowling, and David Sedaris.
I'll read any and all of their writings!
Interesting Fact Most People Don't Know About You:
I love to eat the white part of a watermelon rind. I've always been told it will upset your stomach, but in fact it doesn't. And I think it tastes like grass! (Is that interesting or just strange?)

It goes through phases really. I'm trying to ramp things up a bit at the moment really.

What exactly does having a contract on the house mean? That you've had an offer? Someone is definitely buying it? Is it those friends you mentioned, or someone else?
Saw your comments on Ryan's wall...I know the feeling about multiple networks! I'm hoping we're not that far away from a new era where we can have one profile that we can take with us to whatever network we're connecting with. Having to have separate profiles for every network just isn't going to work long term. Here's hoping anyway!
Any more news on the possible opportunity for Steve in Manchester?
Hello!! How are you doing? feel like I've heard lots of your news through Sam recently! really hope your November is going well. We're soooo busy but with nice things! Nice to see in Moko...on Moko?! Whatever...!
Hi Deana - I have it officially from Sam that we are NOT CHANGING our e-community anymore. Welcome. I hope you like my cow picture. Seeing as it was our first date, I thought it was a little bit forward of the cow to go straight for the smooching. I like a little "hard-to-get."
